Ontario invests US$57.7m in cancer/diagnostics upgrade

Executive Summary
Ontario's ministry of health and long-term care is investing Can$68.3m (US$57.7m) in 2005-06 to upgrade and replace key medical technologies at hospitals currently undergoing major redevelopment projects. Cancer equipment will receive Can$34.8m. Equipment to be upgraded or replaced includes: linear accelerators (9); CT simulators (2); treatment planning equipment (6 - in one case integration equipment is included); radiation clinical information systems (7); orthovoltage unit (1); and brachytherapy equipment (1). Can$33.5m will be invested, across 25 health centres and hospitals, in diagnostic and other medical equipment.
