Executive Summary
Restore Medical, of St Paul, Minnesota, has raised $26.5m in a series C financing led by Bessemer Venture Partners. The company said the proceeds would help it continue commercialisation of the Pillar system, a minimally invasive treatment for snoring. It also plans to expand its business in sleep and breathing technology. The Pillar system obtained FDA approval to treat snoring in December 2002, and a 510(k) application has been submitted for its use in treating patients with obstructive sleep apnoea. It is a small woven polyester device that is implanted under local anaesthesia in a patient's soft palate.
