UK gets updated hypertension control guidelines:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The British Hypertension Society has published updated guidelines for the management of hypertension. It comes with a call to improve diagnosis of the condition, following new evidence confirming a persistently high incidence of under-diagnosis, under-treatment and poor rate of blood pressure control in the UK. The guidance features new epidemiological data on the relationship between blood pressure and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, confirming the "overpowering significance of systolic blood pressure as a determinant of risk," says the society. The new guidelines (published in full in the Journal of Human Hypertension) replace the sets of recommendations issued in 1989, 1993 and 1999, reiterating existing policy in some areas and extending guidance in others.
