Executive Summary

The UK's National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) has been commissioned to develop clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and management of chronic fatigue syndrome (myalgic encephalitis), the Department of Health has announced. Last month, the government earmarked £8.5m ($16m) for new CFS/ME services, including 12 new specialist centres in England. In May 2003, the Medical Research Council published a CFS/ME research strategy, which will complement the development of the services.
