Eliot Phillipson has been appointed president and CEO of the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). He succeeds Dr David Strangway, who retires at the end of March, after six years. Dr Phillipson will take up his appointment on July 1; in the interim, senior vice-president Dr Carmen Charette will serve as acting president. Dr Phillipson, a medical doctor with specialist experience in internal medicine, cardiovascular research and respiration, will be responsible for a Can$3.65bn (US$2.79bn) annual budget to "strengthen the capacity of Canadian universities, research hospitals and other non-profit organisations to carry out world-class technology R&D".
