Roche has released in the US its PCR-based reagent for detecting human papillomavirus (HPV), the leading cause of cervical cancer. The Amplicor HPV system is the first PCR-based reagent for the virus and may be used to develop a "home brew" assay in US laboratories. The product identifies all 13 high-risk genotypes of HPV. Roche also expects to launch a CE-marked kit in Europe within the next few months.
