Smith & Nephew's Advanced Wound Management business has paid $5m and pledged development and sales milestone-related payments to acquire HydroCision's VersaJet surgical debridement product. The product, which is expected to generate around $2-3m in sales in 2004, is approved for use in the US, Canada and Europe and was launched last year. It is designed to enable surgeons to simultaneously hold, cut and remove damaged tissue and contaminants from a wound, and incorporates a fluid jet that creates a localised vacuum effect.
