Germany's reform law formally recognises the "chronically ill"

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The newly-appointed German federal committee of doctors, health insurance funds and patient representatives has finally published its regulations on which patients qualify to be classed as "chronically ill", and on the reimbursement of transport costs. The move appears to have dispelled confusion amongst the general public and brought somewhat unexpected praise from the committee's previous antagonist, health minister Ulla Schmidt (see Clinica No 1092, p 3).
