Executive Summary
The UK's Medical Research Council (MRC) and Institute of Child Health (ICH) today announced plans to jointly establish a centre for research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting children. The MRC Centre of Epidemiology for Child Health is due to open in March 2006 and will be based at the ICH, in University College London. It will be led by the ICH's Professor Carol Dezateux. The MRC spends around half of its £500m ($880m) annual budget on running its 40 institutes, units and centres.
