Indonesian trickle of avian flu cases puts region on alert

Indonesia has confirmed a new case of "highly pathogenic" avian flu, prompting renewed efforts to monitor possible foci of the disease across the wider South-East Asia region. This is the second case confirmed this month, and only the third ever in the country. The first was confirmed in July, among a cluster of three deaths reported as "probable" avian flu cases, in Tangerang, Banten Province.
