Dirceu Raposo de Mello has been appointed director-president of the Brazilian healthcare surveillance agency Anvisa for a three-year term. His responsibility as one of the Brasilia-based agency's five directors, a post he has held since January 2005, is in the areas of public healthcare laboratories and medicines. Mr Raposo de Mello, a biochemist by profession, replaces Claudio Maierovitch Pessanha Henriques, who has been re-appointed as director, yet was expected to retain the presidency, after receiving the unanimous backing of the social affairs commission, Clinica understands.
