Direct Medical Systems (DMS) has received US FDA 510(k) market clearance for its DMS-C800 CT scanner and DMS-880P portable B/W ultrasound system. It is the first time that DMS has gained US clearance to sell diagnostic imaging products, a market which the San Ramon, California-based company values at $16bn. The firm's products are already available in other countries. DMS is a joint venture company between several Chinese manufacturers and the government of the People's Republic of China. It is also applying to the FDA for 510(k) clearance for its MRI, mammography, and other ultrasound systems.
