The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is making final preparations ahead of its operational launch, scheduled for May 20. The new EU health protection agency, based in Stockholm, Sweden, was established to co-ordinate national efforts to tackle current and emerging threats internationally, such as avian flu, SARS and AIDS.
