The FDA has issued a draft guidance on how to use a centralised institutional review board (IRB) when conducting multicentre clinical trials. Clinical investigations subject to the requirements of investigational new drug regulations (eg imaging agents), must be reviewed and approved by an IRB. But the IRB requirements evolved at a time when most clinical trials were conducted at a single study site.
