As the medical technology industry seeks to raise awareness of the value of its products among the public, the obituaries for US journalist and writer Hunter S Thompson, who died on February 20, are unlikely to do the orthopaedics industry's image any favours. Following his high-profile suicide, a double hip replacement operation was yesterday highlighted by his creative collaborator and friend, the artist Ralph Steadman, as the leading factor behind the author's sense of "physical entrapment".
