Medtronic has contacted physicians who implanted certain of its ICD and CRT-D devices to regulate heart rhythms after a small number of products were returned with faulty battery designs. The products have not been recalled, and the company said that to date only 0.01% of the batteries in question have malfunctioned, and that there have been no reported patient deaths or injuries. Nine devices were returned, out of 87,000 implanted.
