Executive Summary
The Scottish Executive has re-appointed the committee that oversees the Scottish Hospital Endowments Research Trust (SHERT), responsible for financing basic medical-scientific research. The re-appointments of Professor Jane Bower, Dr Graham Beastall and Mr David Grahame (for details see page 19), are made pending the repeal of SHERT's non-departmental public body (NDPB) status, which was the outcome of a review that concluded that it should operate under a charitable status and that it would not need to be subject to ministerial regulation.
