Dutch firm ViroNovative, has signed a licence deal with Athens, Ohio-based Diagnostic HYBRIDS related to the human metapneumovirus (hMPV) discovered in 2001 at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, out of which it was spun. Under a non-exclusive deal, monoclonal antibody reagents specialist Diagnostic HYBRIDS will be allowed to develop, make and sell hMPV-specific antigen detection products, for use in direct specimen detection and with cell culture. The virus causes respiratory tract infections and is thought to be present in 5-15% of patients with respiratory symptoms.
