UK updates guidance on bed rails with focus on third-party supplies

In response to further reports of serious adverse incidents involving problems with bed rails and handles, the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Agency (MHRA) today updated its guidance on the subject. Focusing on "third-party" bed rails - ie those not supplied by the manufacturer - the MHRA's Assistive Technology (AT) Unit describes the potential risks associated with each type and underlines, among other things, the need for a full risk assessment of the rail's suitability and the importance of regular maintenance.
