Executive Summary
Rainer Voelksen, former head of the Swissmedic competent authority who was seconded to the Australian regulatory authority, has now taken up a position with industry. After seven years as head of the medical devices division at SwissMedic and, most recently, a year in secondment at the Therapeutics Goods Administration, from mid-2005 to mid-2006, he has taken up a post with the Swiss-based orthopaedics company Synthes. He has been appointed director of regulatory affairs and conformity assessment for Asia Pacific. Mr Voelksen has a wealth of experience in global regulatory issues, having been active in the past on the Steering Committee of the Global Harmonization Task Force.
