Smith & Nephew launches Emperion modular hip system:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Smith & Nephew has announced that its Emperion modular hip system for primary and revision total hip arthroplasty is now available in the US, Europe, Australia and Canada. The system offers optimal sizing of the implant, so that it can be more accurately matched to a patient's anatomy than other systems, claimed the firm. In addition the "circulotrapezoidal" neck design allows for a greater range of motion, and the bullet tip shape of the stem reduces thigh pain and makes insertion of the device easier, it said. "Emperion offers surgeons greater flexibility to adapt a total hip replacement to their patients' specific needs potentially reducing post-operative complications," said Scott Flora, president of Smith & Nephew Orthopaedic Reconstruction.
