Executive Summary
US Medicare is making public what it pays for 61 procedures performed in ambulatory surgery centres (ASCs). The information will be available on county, state and national level. It is the second time that the health plan has issued such information. In June this year, it released information on what it pays for 41 procedures performed in an inpatient setting. Two sets of ASC data will be available. One covers the 41 procedures that are also performed in an inpatient setting, so that prices can be compared. The second set covers high-volume procedures typically performed at ASCs.
