Executive Summary
Sydney, Australia-based Portland Orthopaedics has been granted US FDA approval to market its modular design M-Cor primary hip in the US. The company will now ramp-up manufacturing ahead of delivery to its exclusive US distributor, Plus Orthopedics. The M-Cor is fixed in the thigh bone (femur) with a traditional hammer and nail method, but has unique, patented methods for assisting the surgeon to obtain ideal fit for each person's anatomy. Portland says the approval constitutes the green light to sell and implant its most important hip product throughout the US. Much of the M-Cor design work was done in the US. The product will be manufactured in Sydney.
