This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

A suspected case of Lassa fever in Germany, discovered in a Sierra Leone resident visiting the country, has been laboratory-confirmed by the Bernhard-Nocht-Institute of Tropical Medicine, in Hamburg. The case is being treated in isolation but, even though the risk of transmission of Lassa virus to co-passengers is, according to the WHO, "extremely low", the case has triggered an international contact-tracing exercise, highlighting the significant potential for disease transmission through international travel.
