ELA Medical, part of Sorin, has received US FDA market approval for its Ovatio family of dual (DR)- and single-chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs). The Ovatio DR, the firm claims, is the world's smallest dual-chamber ICD, measuring just 29cc. According to Milan, Italy-based Sorin, the 2006 US ICD market is estimated at over $5bn.
