Synergetics USA has entered a three-year agreement with French laser developer Quantel Medical to distribute the latter's Vitra ophthalmic laser - claimed to be the smallest, portable ophthalmic laser available on the market - in the US and Canada. Synergetics, which offers devices used in vitreoretinal surgery, will gain exclusive rights to distribute the laser in the operating room, and non-exclusive distribution rights for the ophthalmic office. Both companies believe the combined US and Canadian markets for ophthalmic lasers, together with related accessories, to exceed $28m each year.
