Australia's National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has appointed Warwick Anderson as CEO, effective from June 7. Over a five-year term ending 2011, Professor Anderson, a senior healthcare research and management expert, will focus on how best to invest in social and commercial applications of health and medical research. He will also strengthen the council's operational division to ensure continued expert advice on health issues to the government after the council becomes independent, on July 1.
