The US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has decided to take a look at new forms of noninvasive imaging for the detection of coronary artery disease in what could eventually lead to expanded coverage of these promising modalities. The agency has scheduled a meeting of its private sector Medicare Coverage Advisory Commission (MCAC) on May 18 to consider the medical evidence for computed tomography angiography, electron beam tomography (otherwise known as ultrafast CT), cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and other possible technologies.
