Becton Dickinson subsidiary BD Diagnostics has secured a multi-year deal to supply Quest Diagnostics, the Lyndhurst, New Jersey-based diagnostic testing service provider, with its Viper technology for testing and diagnosing sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. The BD Viper system, cleared by the US FDA in January this year (see Clinica No 1189, p 18), is designed to improve efficiency in the laboratory workflow and increase the turn-around of test results. Incubation, amplification and detection all occur on the system, with the repetitive pipetting step performed by a robotic arm.
