EDAP, the Lyon, France-based developer of minimally-invasive urology devices, has strengthened its presence in Asia with the addition of a new sales office in Sapporo, Japan. It has also promoted Julien Laronze, former sales director at EDAP's headquarters of Alser, to vice-president within the Japanese subsidiary. EDAP has an installed base of over 200 urology devices in Japan. Its flagship product is the Ablatherm-HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) treatment for localised prostate cancer, and it also develops devices that employ extra-corporeal shockwave lithotripsy to treat urinary tract stones.
