Executive Summary
The German employees' sickness fund (DAK) has become the first of Germany's 260 or so funds to pledge itself to the e-healthcard, championed by health minister Ulla Schmidt and developed by the gematik company. The card is being piloted in eight federal states (see Clinica No 1188, p 7). gematik is currently overseeing a month-long practical introduction pilot phase in the test states, which will end in early February, representing another completed stage of the introduction schedule.
