A debate over the regulation of medical device distributors is anticipated as the European Commission's official proposal for a review of the Medical Devices Directive (MDD) and Active Implantable Medical Devices Directive is debated by the European Council. The Council, now under the Austrian presidency, is preparing for its first meeting on the text, on January 23 and 24, just over a month after the publication of the proposal on December 22 2005.
