Executive Summary
The European Commission has issued calls for proposals for research into avian flu, backed by funding totalling Euro20m ($24m) from the sixth framework programme (FP6). Diagnostics - "Defining molecular markers of pathogenicity in highly pathogenic influenza" - is one of four parts of a Euro10m project allocated to human care. Under the STREP funding regime, the project will require a minimum of three participants (legal entities) from three different member (or associated/candidate) states.
