This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Hong Kong is now accepting applications to list class III and class II medical devices on the Medical Device Administrative Control System (MDACS). Class IV devices were listed in November 2004 when MDACS was set up. Medical devices are regulated by the Medical Device Control Office (MDCO), which was established in July 2004. It is currently a voluntary system, but there are plans to make it mandatory and to align it with the Global Harmonization Task Force (GHTF). Guidance notes for listing devices can be found at www.mdco.gov.hk
