This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Boston Scientific has CE-marked its Confient implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). The ICD can be programmed wirelessly, to save time during the implant procedure and to help retain sterility. This is the first EU approval Natick, Massachusetts-based Boston has received for a cardiac rhythm management device to treat sudden cardiac death (SCD). SCD kills around 350,000 people in Europe every year. The Confient is not yet available in the US.
