Executive Summary
Pinyons Medical Technology has received 510(k) clearance from the US FDA for its PowrSyringe Injector. The product is a disposable, handheld device for injecting contrast media, for example in angiography. "PowrSyringes should deliver the ease-of-use, cost-effective, and tactile feedback characteristics of a syringe, plus the faster injection speed and image quality benefits of electronic power injectors," said the Park City, Utah company's CEO Shawn Fojtik. The faster injection speed can result in lower doses of contrast media. This could mean a reduction in costs for hospitals and a decrease the risk of contrast induced nephropathy - a functional kidney disorder brought on by the use of imaging tracers. The PowrSyringe will become available for sale in early 2008.
