Ireland's Health Service Executive has appointed Professor Tom Keane as interim director of the National Cancer Control Programme. From November, he will oversee its implementation, featuring the transfer of all major cancer care to eight specialist centres and the establishment of supporting services, against a series of equipment-significant standards (report to follow). Professor Keane joins on a two-year secondment from his position as radiation programme leader for the British Columbia Cancer Agency, in Canada.
