Advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is under-diagnosed worldwide and has a significantly higher prevalence rate than shown in many studies. That is the finding of the International Burden of Lung Disease (BOLD) study conducted by US university-based researchers (The Lancet, Vol 370, No 9589, September 1 2007).
