Executive Summary
Following the introduction of new avian flu laboratory standards and case-confirmation criteria (see related story), the WHO has updated Viet Nam's avian flu statistics. Five cases, including four deaths, recorded by the health ministry between early June and early August, have been added. They take this year's totals in the country to seven cases with four deaths - 100 cases and 46 deaths since 2003; no cases were recorded in 2006.
