Executive Summary
Brazil's reference centre for orthopaedic surgery - the national trauma and orthopaedic institute (INTO) - is today concluding its two-day "international immersion course" in shoulder and elbow replacement and reconstruction, in a bid to raise awareness of innovations in these areas. This latest imersao includes live surgical presentations that promise to feature the latest technologies in a range of procedures, from arthroscopic (videosurgical) reconstruction of tendons in the shoulder/elbow, to minimally-invasive metal resurfacing of the shoulder. The latter was performed for the first time in Latin America only last month at its Rio de Janeiro headquarters, claims INTO.
