Australia relies on FOBT for bowel cancer detection

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

In Australia, currently less than 40% of bowel cancers are detected early and around 90 Australians per week die of the condition. This was the outreach message delivered by the government during bowel cancer awareness week this month. However, it is hoped that when the national bowel cancer programme is fully implemented - it is currently in phase one (see Clinica No 1207, p 15) - 5 million (eligible) people will benefit.
