Bio-Rad Laboratories (Hercules, California) has agreed to develop new immunoassays for Beckman Coulter's UniCel and Access immunoassay systems, including Hepatitis B envelope antigen and antibody, under an extension to an agreement that began in 1997. Beckman Coulter vice-president of the immunoassay business centre Richard Creager said the deal will add significant value for blood virus and infectious disease testing laboratories and gain market share in the $1.6bn worldwide blood virus and infectious disease area. Fullerton California-based Beckman Coulter last month lost out to Inverness Medial Innovations in a bidding race for Biosite (see Clinica No 1256, p 2)
