Vidacare's bone marrow biopsy system:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Vidacare's new bone marrow biopsy (trephine) system, OnControl, has received 510(k) clearance from the US FDA. OnControl has a lithium-powered driver, and is intended to improve the speed, control, core capture rate, and patient comfort of the bone marrow biopsy procedure. The San Antonio, Texas-based company said that, according to a recent study, the manual procedure - the current standard - causes pain rated as severe to "worst possible" by nearly 20% of patients. The OnControl Biopsy System uses 11 gauge, 102mm or 152mm needles with specialised bi-bevelled cutting tips. It has a biopsy tray designed to simplify needle set access and usage while maintaining a sterile environment, and the cannula features a standard luer-lock connector.
