The EU is an important market for Beckman Coulter, and is increasingly seen by the Fullerton, California company as a worldwide launch market. "The European launches started with the Automate 800. Because the system has been such a success, it is now also going to be introduced at the US AACC meeting in San Diego this year," said Beckman Coulter Europe's vice-president, marketing diagnostics, EMEA and India, Marcel van Kasteel. Speaking to Clinica, Mr van Kasteel, who is helping to drive growth in Europe for the $2.53bn turnover (2006) lab systems group, said that the new workstation consolidation system, UniCel DxC 880i, currently in development, will also be unveiled first in Europe. The combination system, comprising a closed tube aliquotter (CTA) - the key element of this new system - the DxC 800 clinical system and the DxI 800 immunoassay system, has been previewed in Europe and will be exhibited at EuroMedLab 2007 in June, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The conference and exhibition will also see the global launch of the UniCel DxI 600.
