Executive Summary
CAD firm Confirma has signed a strategic alliance agreement with Guardian Technologies, to collaborate on the design, development and commercialisation of radiology imaging solutions for new clinical applications. Guardian Technologies will bring to the alliance its patent-pending CAD technology based on a mathematical algorithm - called intelligent imaging informatics (3i) - that can be trained to recognise patterns in organic material, or generate "Signature Maps" relating to individual disease states. The technology has shown promise in imaging breast lesions in mammography said the Herndon, Virginia firm. It has also yielded encouraging results for MR imaging of multiple sclerosis lesions. Early studies have shown possible uses for the technology in prostate MRI and CT brain scans. Bellevue, Washington-based Confirma already has over 700 CAD systems for breast MRI installed worldwide.
