Executive Summary

The UK has launched a study to assess the clinical and cost-effectiveness of arthroscopic and open surgery and the non-surgical ("rest then exercise") approach to tears of the shoulder's rotator cuff. Citing wide variations in clinical policy, the study commissioned by the National Coordinating Centre for Health Technology Assessment (NCCHTA) will seek to harmonise the management of what is a common cause of shoulder pain in the adult population, according to the DoH R&D body.
