Diomed prevails in varicose vein laser treatment patent dispute

A jury trial has found that two competitor companies infringed Diomed's US patent No 6,398,777, which covers the treatment of varicose veins by endovenous laser ablation. The verdict resulted in Diomed being awarded $4.1m in damages from Vascular Solutions, and $8.36m from AngioDynamics. Diomed says it will immediately file for a permanent injunction against the two rival firms.
