Canada has pledged Can$30m (US$25m) over five years to a foundation dedicated to research and treatment of spinal injury. The funds will be used by the Rick Hansen foundation's Spinal Cord Industry Translational Research Network to -accelerate scientific advances towards a cure" and to build infrastructure "needed to keep Canada on the leading edge of spinal cord research". Other objectives of the foundation include establishing best practices in spinal cure treatment, acceleration of practical application of cures and completing the roll-out of a national registry of patients and their medical histories as a reporting and tracking tool.
