Nobel Biocare snaps up Israeli dental firm

Swiss dental group Nobel Biocare has closed a deal to acquire AlphaBio, an Israeli dental implant company, in a transaction worth $95m. This acquisition enhances Zurich-based Nobel's portfolio of products for reconstructive dentistry with the addition of AlphaBio's implants, prosthetics and accessories which are sold in over 40 countries, according to Nobel. The deal, which was a mix of cash and Nobel shares, sees Nobel gain the full rights to AlphaBio's brand names, product pipeline, R&D network and manufacturing facility in Tel Aviv. Nobel also said that it will retain all AlphaBio's 120 employees. AlphaBio's current CEO and owner Ophir Fromovich will become chairman of the board of the company and an advisor to Nobel. Nobel expects the acquisition to be immediately accretive in 2008.
