Scotland today unveiled an £8m ($16.1m) package of additional funds to develop telecare services over the next two years. The initiative seeks to hasten innovation in this area, with "a new generation of interactive care services, promising far reaching improvements", according to Scottish public health minister Shona Robison. Since the launch of the Telecare programme, which features automated wellbeing sensors and alarms, NHS Scotland is said to have saved £2.9m by freeing up 1,800 hospital and 6,900 care home bed days.
